The Faculty of Computer Engineering and Science at Al-Ahgaff University holds an open day for its students

Under the generous patronage of Professor Abdullah bin Muhammad Baharoon, President of Al-Ahgaff University, the Faculty of Computer Engineering and Science held an open day at the faculty on the morning of Sunday, November 12, 2023. This event was organized by the Information Technology Department and in coordination with the University’s Activities Department, and was hosted in the great hall of the faculty building.

The open day began with verses from the Holy Quran, recited by the student / Salem bin Saidah, then followed a speech by Professor Sadiq Omar Maknoon, Vice President of the University, in which he expressed his happiness with this activity that the faculty holds annually, calling on all students to be serious and diligent in their studies as well as to overcome the circumstances which hinders them from studying. He gave the students a set of important advice and motivated them to roll up their sleeves towards excellence, noting that creativity and excellence will only come by overcoming these challenges and difficulties. After that, Engineer Fayez Ahmed bin Shamla, Secretary-General of the University, spoke and thanked the Deanship of the Faculty for arranging this activity. He also called on students to persevere and be diligent in their studies and to determine their field and inclinations, especially since the information technology major contains many paths and directions such as the path of programming, networking, database systems, information security, and so on.

The next speaker was Dr. Hamza Al-Aidaroos, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Engineering and Science, delivered a speech in which he welcomed all attendees and thanked them for accepting the invitation to attend the faculty’s open day. He pointed out in his speech that the open day aims to display and highlight the students’ projects that they developed during their studies, and this in turn motivates the rest of the students and pushes them towards developing their programming capabilities and skills. In his speech, Al-Aidaroos stressed that the faculty always seeks to develop its curricula and seeks to improve the educational environment. He said that the faculty is also proud of having a qualified academic staff and distinguished administrative staff.

Regarding the activities of the open day, Dr. Muhammad Wahdin, Head of the Information Technology Department at the faculty, spoke, reviewing the most prominent activities of this day. He pointed out in his speech that developing projects within academic curricula aims to link students’ cognitive side with the practical side, and this also helps them learn other skills such as the art of negotiation and how to work within a team. After that, a video was shown reviewing a variety of male and female students’ projects in the Information Technology Department. The video gives a summary and information about each project and explains the programs and techniques that were used in developing those projects.

In the honoring section, the faculty and administrative staff members of the Faculty of Computer Engineering and Science were honored for their efforts towards students and faculty. This was followed by honoring Mr. Muhammad Al-Buri, Director of Activities at the University, in addition to honoring the unknown soldiers, students and employees, who contributed to the success of the open day. In conclusion, the top outstanding students in the second semester of the academic year 2022-2023 who achieved high results among their colleagues were honored. In the Faculty of women’s building, the top female students of the Information Technology Department were honored, and three projects for third-level female students were presented.

In conclusion, the event presenter, student Abdullah Saeed Bamaqa, thanked the attendees, calling on everyone to go to the computer lab at the university’s headquarters to view the students’ projects. The event was attended by Professor Ahmed Saleh Khored, Dean of Quality and Academic Accreditation, and a number of faculty deans, department heads, department directors at the university, and members of the teaching and administrative staff at the Faculty of Computer Engineering and Science.
