The Dean's Statement
This faculty has combined the traditional methods of teaching with the new modern ones. It was clearly evident through methods of teaching since it was based on many basic (Mutun) in sciences along with modern academic education. Accordingly, the teaching staff of scholars and (Zawaya Alailm) has been established as well as specialized academic professors from various Arabian and Islamic universities.

About the Faculty
The Faculty of Sharia and Law is located in the city of Tarim in Wadi Hadhramout. This city has established a scientific and religious value; it was famous for educating many scholars who left praiseworthy marks inside and outside Yemen. This faculty presents a unique model that combines the traditional Islamic methods of teaching which is well known for its grand graduates, and the modern academic educational systems. Furthermore, the faculty has professional scholars from Tarim and different parts of the Arab world who teach in it.

Aims of the Faculty

The Aims of the Faculty are to:
1. Produce jurists and scholars who are experienced and firmly established in Sharia sciences while keeping updated in technological means.
2. Establish the Islamic spirit and strengthen theological and Sufi beliefs in individuals and community.
3. Produce scientific studies and researches in Sharia and Law.
4. Participate in reviving the Islamic culture.

Faculty Overview


Faculty Overview
The Faculty of Sharia and Law is considered the first faculty of Al-Ahgaff University. It was founded in 1995-1996 and is located in Tarim city in Wadi Hadhramout. Tarim city occupies a special scientific and religious position. It is also well known for educating many scholars and leaders. This faculty presents a unique model through its teaching methods as it combines the classical teaching tradition, which the faculty is widely well-known for, and the modern academic systems. A distinguished group of scholars, who are known for their knowledge and resourcefulness, and who mastered the skill of reading and understanding the traditional texts, teach in this faculty along with a number of specialized academics from outside Yemen.
This faculty seeks to create scholars who delve deep into Sharia and Law sciences and who are acquainted with the demands of modern age. It also seeks, since its establishment, to include as many students as possible from the Islamic World. Moreover, this faculty has an excellent effective curriculum that meets the requirements of jurisprudence, science of hadith and law specialization. In addition to creating scholars who cannot miss learning the Quran and Hadith sciences. Furthermore, they will study Islamic economy Banking (finance, and computer).
The faculty adopts a methodology that educates students away from fanaticism and fights all types of religious extremism. Besides, it encourages the scientific research especially on recent contentious matters while respecting scholars and honoring them.

Educational System

Educational System
The Faculty of Sharia and Law adopts academic semesters that considers a study unit as a base to measure courses and educate students’ performance according to the following general rules:
- The teaching language is Arabic language and the university board can assume another language to teach some of the courses of the curriculum.
- The faculty awards bachelor degree in (Sharia) or (Sharia and law).
- The academic education of Sharia and Law specialization consists of five academic years.
- The academic year is divided into two semesters. Each semester consists of 16 weeks that does not include the final examinations.
- The university board specifies the beginning and end of every academic year.
- The number of courses in each semester does not exceed 8 courses.
- The faculty study guide shows the academic plan. This plan illustrates the curriculum courses and their division throughout the academic year and its semesters. It also shows the numbers of hours assigned for each course.
- The course of each curriculum is assigned through the university board based on the specialization department’s suggestion and on the agreement of the faculty council.
- Student graduation would be accomplished when completing all of the required courses as well passing the final examination in four basic courses: Quran, Jurisprudence, Jurisprudence Sciences and Arabic Language. The regulation of the academic system informs the students of the admission and registration system, test, transmission, failure and other rules and regulations that concern students.

The faculty's library
The library of Sharia and Law contains many books, volumes, thesauruses and periodicals that benefit the scholars and students.

Aims of the library are to:
1. Provide library services to the students.
2. Develop student’s abilities through reading, research etc...
3. Participate in awakening knowledge through providing books and references.
4. Fulfilling the concept of enlightenment through library content.

Library Rules:
1. Library attendant must keep quiet so as not to disturb the other readers.
2. Library visitors must not damage any of its books in any way that would limit its value.
3. Visitors should keep personal belongings out of the library.
4. Using the library for other purposes is not allowed so as to ensure the safety of its belongings as well as recognizing its function in knowledge acquisition.
