Al-Ahgaff University participates in the virtual international conference on teaching Arabic to non-native speakers in Algeria

Al-Ahgaff University participated in a research paper presented by Dr. Hussein Ali Al-Aidarous entitled (The Arabic Language Center for Speakers of Other Languages ​​at Al-Ahgaff University, Reality and Ambition) in the Virtual International Conference: Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers, which was organized by the International House of Linguistics Academy - Turkey in cooperation with the Supreme Council of Language Arabic - Algeria, the Laboratory of Language Practices in Algeria at the University of Mouloud - Maameri Tizi Ouzou, and the University Training Research Team (PRFU) teaching Arabic to non-native speakers in Algerian schools, held from 21-22-23 June 2022, via Zoom.

The research dealt with the urgent need of the Center for Teaching Arabic to Speakers of Other Languages ​​to conduct an evaluation study of its program and its performance during the past years. Therefore, this study aimed to know the opinions of the center's students and graduates regarding the suitability of the educational environment, scientific programs and the teaching staff therein. To achieve this goal, the study first reviewed the theoretical framework by delivering a presentation on the center, its curricula and its associated environment, and then a questionnaire was used to survey students’ opinions about its advantages and challenges, by measuring four axes: the student’s learning motivation, the validity of the educational environment, and the validity of the curriculum. Then the qualification of the teachers and their scientific and educational competence. Samples were surveyed from the views of students currently studying at the center, and samples from the views of students who graduated from the center, as well as graduates of university faculties returning to their countries. The study concluded that the Arabic-speaking educational environment, the actual practice of the language, and exposing learners to daily life situations have a major role in the success of the center, which goes in parallel with other educational motivations, such as the student’s positive motivation, the stimulating educational environment, the good preparation of the teaching staff, and the quality of the curricula. Taking into account recent trends in teaching second languages ​​to non-native speakers.

It is worth mentioning that the conference proceedings will be published in an international refereed journal classified (C) with an impact factor, which is useful in all promotions (the Journal of Linguistic Practices) and (Al-Mayadeen Journal for Studies in the Humanities) an international scientific refereed journal, and the participants can choose the journal in which they wish to publish.

It is noteworthy that the researcher has obtained master's and doctorate degrees from Al-Ahgaff University and is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and Director of the Arabic Language Center for Speakers of Other Languages ​​at the university.
