Department of Sunnah and Its Sciences

Head of Department Message

The Department of Sunnah and Its Sciences is one of the academic departments within the Faculty of Sharia and Law at Al-Ahgaff University. It was established in 2020 with the aim of serving the sciences of the Prophetic Sunnah and preparing graduates who combine expertise in Fiqh and its principles with knowledge of Hadith and its sciences. Through this approach, the Department seeks to disseminate the sciences of the Prophetic Sunnah and revive the tradition of Hadith transmission through chains of authority (Isnad). The Department also seeks to serve the Hadrami Hadith heritage through the scholarly editing and study of manuscripts related to the sciences of Hadith, both in terms of their transmission and critical understanding. Al-Ahgaff University, represented by its President, Habib Abdullah Mohammed Baharoon, seeks through the establishment of this Department to prepare researchers who are well-versed in the sources of the Prophetic Sunnah and its various methodologies. Graduates are trained to trace and authenticate Prophetic texts, while possessing the ability to understand their jurisprudential implications, language, and chains of transmission, as well as to recognize the doubts and criticisms raised concerning them and respond to them through sound and rigorous academic methods. In addition to studying the various sciences of Hadith, students in the Department have the honor of listening to and studying the Hadith collections of the Six Major Books of Hadith (al-Kutub al-Sittah) throughout the different stages of their studies.
