As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of higher education and develop academic plans and educational programs in line with national and international standards for academic development and program accreditation, and under the patronage of Professor Abdullah Mohammed Baharoon, President of Al-Ahgaff University, the University, represented by the Faculty of Sharia and Law and in collaboration with the Misab Center for Strategic Studies and Quality Development, organized a specialized scientific and training workshop entitled “Measuring and Evaluating Academic Program Learning Outcomes.”

The workshop was conducted over two consecutive days, Monday and Tuesday, September 28–29, 2026, with a total of 12 training hours. It was attended by Dr. Abdullah Awadh bin Sumait, Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law, and Professor Ahmed Saleh Khard, Dean of Quality and Academic Accreditation at the University. The workshop specifically targeted a group of the University’s academic leaders, including faculty deans, heads of academic departments, and members of self-assessment teams.

The workshop was delivered by Dr. Salem Ahmed Bawadi, Director of the Misab Center for Strategic Studies and Quality Development. Over the two days, he addressed the conceptual and structural framework for measuring learning outcomes and their practical applications.

On the first day, the sessions focused on the formulation and levels of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs), as well as the distinction between Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) and Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs). The workshop also highlighted various measurement and assessment methods, including direct and indirect assessment, as well as formative and summative assessment. Participants were introduced to the key elements involved in designing an assessment plan, leading to Closing the Loop and the development of continuous improvement plans.

The second day featured practical applications and simulation models for developing an integrated measurement plan. Participants received hands-on training in assessing course and program learning outcomes, completing measurement-cycle reporting forms, and designing practical academic improvement plans.

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants emphasized the importance of effectively applying these outcomes and incorporating them into course and program reports in order to enhance graduate competencies and meet labor market requirements. They also expressed their appreciation for the efforts made in organizing this specialized workshop, which contributes to strengthening the institutional culture of quality and academic accreditation at Al-Ahgaff University.
