Al-Ahgaff University celebrated the International Day of the Arabic Language, December 18, by holding an event organized by the Arabic Language Center for Non-Native Speakers, in cooperation with the Activities Department, under the slogan "In Defense of the Arabic Language".
The event opened with fragrant verses from the Holy Quran read by the student Fayez Al-Qulaisi, followed by a welcome speech from the head of the organizing committee, student Haider Al-Jifri, in which he welcomed the attendees from faculty, students and staff.
A meaningful discussion segment entitled Today's Youth, Tomorrow's Leaders was held, presented by the two students, Zainal and Roma.
Then the student, Faeq Mufaddal, gave a speech to the students of the Language Center, in which he spoke about the importance of the Arabic language and the necessity of acquiring it and mastering its skills in order to learn Islamic law.
Then a poem was recited on the occasion of the International Day of the Arabic Language, performed by student Aziz Sukmagati
The Director of the Arabic Language Center, Dr. Hussein Ali Al-Aidarous, delivered a speech in which he welcomed the presidency of the university, represented by the Vice President of the University, the Secretary-General, the faculty members of the center, and the students, and thanked them for accepting the invitation to participate in the celebration of the International Day of the Arabic Language.
He talked about the basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, and methods of acquiring and mastering them by fully integrating into the Arabic-speaking environment and achieving the principle of linguistic immersion because of its effective and direct impact on language practice, application of its rules, knowledge of its methods and increase of its vocabulary.
An introductory reportage was presented about the Arabic Language Center for Non-Native Speakers, its founding and goals, which were prepared by a group of students of the Center.
The activities of the ceremony included a group of student participations, including theatrical performances, chants and other performances, which added joy to the audience.
The ceremony concluded with a speech by the University Presidency delivered by Prof. Sadiq Omar Maknoon, in which he thanked the efforts of the Arabic Language Center and the Activities Department in managing this activity, represented by the Director of the Center, Dr. Hussein Ali Al-Aidarous, and the Head of the Activities Department, Mr. Muhammad Salem Al-Buri, in addition to the student committees that contributed to the success of the event.
He added that the university is proud of its Arabic and Islamic identity and is a destination for students of knowledge from various Islamic countries due to its interest in the legal and linguistic aspects, as one of its projects is the establishment of the Arabic Language Center for non-native speakers, in recognition of the importance of the Arabic language in the various religious, cultural and social aspects and a desire to communicate its human message to all peoples and nationalities.
The ceremony was attended by the Secretary-General of the University, Eng. Fayez Ahmed Bin Shamla, the Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Sciences, Dr. Samir Sabi, the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law, Mukalla Branch, Dr. Abdullah Al Hamed, and Mr. Zain bin Aqil, Director of the Expatriate Affairs Office at the University, in addition to members of the faculty, staff, and students.
