On Thursday, December 9th, the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science held the second oral assessment for students of the second, third and fourth levels in the faculty under the supervision of the English Language Unit at the university.
Coordination was made between the English Language Unit and the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, and topics were distributed to all students of the mentioned levels in order to prepare and be ready. Students prepared presentations on the topics they were assigned to.
This assessment aims to improve the level of English language and improve students' speaking skills. This trend came in view of the University Council’s directives to support teaching in English and to improve the general skills of university students, especially in the linguistic aspect, due to its impact on the university’s outputs to ensure educational quality and the advancement of university education.
The Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Hassan Abdel-Muttalib Mugaibel stressed the importance of holding these activities for students because of their role in improving their skills and developing them in the English language and in presentation, thanking the English Language Unit for their efforts in making this activity a success.
The evaluation committee consisted of Dr. Abdullah Rajab Al-Falaq, a collaborating professor at the university, and Mr. Muhammad Salem Al-Buri, head of the English language unit, Mr. Salem Lakman, the English language trainer at the Hadhramaut Research Center, and Mrs. Maryam bin Samir, the English language trainer at the Hadhramout Research Center.
And from the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, Dr. Hassan Abdulmutallab Muqibel, Mr. Omar Bahkam, and Mr. Imad Bafadhel.
The committee evaluated the students based on a set of criteria that were set in the evaluation form, which include:
1- How the student will use the presentation.
2- The language of the student in terms of pronunciation and the use of grammar.
3- Self-confidence.
4- The process of communication and movement.
5- Clarity of content.
6- Speaking skills.
The committee commended the students' linguistic and scientific level, and gave them some notes to improve the quality of their performance in the future.
