Awareness Lecture on Cyber Extortion Held at the Faculty of Women of Al-Ahgaff University

The Activities Committee at the Faculty of Women of Al-Ahgaff University organized yesterday, Tuesday 21th April, a specialized awareness lecture entitled “Cyber Extortion”, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance students’ awareness amid increasing digital openness and to warn against the risks of cybercrime and methods of prevention. The event featured the participation of a number of specialized security officials.

Lieutenant Mohammed Hussein Bahyan, Director of Mukalla Police Station and Head of the Cyber Extortion Unit, addressed the most prominent forms and modern methods of cyber extortion. He also reviewed the security efforts undertaken to combat such crimes and the mechanisms for handling reports.

Lieutenant Bahyan further presented several cases handled by the extortion unit and the procedures taken, warning students against unsafe use of social media applications.

Also participating in the lecture was Lieutenant Saad Salah Al-Naoum, Investigation Officer, who highlighted the legal and procedural aspects of tracking perpetrators of such crimes, as well as methods for protecting personal data in the digital space.

Additionally, Captain Intisar Al-Asad Ba‘isa, Head of the Women’s Police Department at Mukalla Security Directorate, spoke about the role of female police officers in handling extortion cases, particularly those targeting women. She emphasized the importance of reporting such incidents and not yielding to extortion.

This event is part of a series of awareness activities aimed at raising community awareness about the dangers of cybercrime and promoting a culture of safe use of modern technologies, especially in light of the growing reliance on digital tools in various aspects of daily life.

The lecture was attended by Dr. Hamzah Alaidaros, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science; Mr. Zain Salem bin Aqeel, Dean of the Faculty of Distance Education; Ms. Sofia Al-Mohammadi, Dean of the Faculty of Women; and a number of faculty members.
