On Monday evening, the Faculty of Graduate Studies at Al-Ahgaff University, Department of Information Technology, awarded a Master’s degree to researcher Imad Abdallah Omar Bafadl for his thesis entitled:

"Evaluating the Impact of Feature Selection Techniques on Machine Learning Models for SDN Flow Table DDoS Attack Detection"

The study explores cutting-edge innovations in the field of networking, presenting a novel approach for managing networks more efficiently and flexibly than traditional architectures. It focuses on Software-Defined Networking (SDN), which separates the intelligent control functions from the hardware layer—enabling centralized network management and more informed decision-making.

Bafadhel's research addresses the persistent threat of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, one of the most critical security challenges facing SDN environments. By integrating artificial intelligence algorithms, the study evaluates how feature selection techniques can enhance detection accuracy and efficiency.

The findings offer practical insights and solutions to optimize the use of feature selection in mitigating DDoS attacks, providing a valuable reference for researchers working on early detection mechanisms within SDN systems.

The discussion committee included:

- Dr. Makarem Mohammed Bamatraf

Chair and External Examiner – University of Hadhramout

- Dr. Mohammed Mubarak Wahdain

Member and Internal Examiner – Al-Ahgaff University

- Dr. Hassan Abdulmutalib Maqaibel

Member and Thesis Supervisor – Al-Ahgaff University

The committee praised the researcher’s rigorous methodology and adherence to academic standards, enriching the discussion with insightful feedback. Upon conclusion of the defense session, the panel unanimously approved the awarding of the Master’s degree to the researcher.
