Al-Ahgaff University won a gold medal in the Inventopia 2025 International Innovation Competition, organized by the University of Mara Malaysia (UiTM) at the end of last month. (131) innovative projects from four countries participated in the competition: Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, and Yemen.
A team from the Information Technology (IT) Department of the Faculty of Computer Engineering and Sciences, consisting of five fourth-year students, participated in the competition: Aya Al-Zamki, Samia Balhoul, Samia Balhoul, Fatima Bin Sheikh Abu Bakr, and Nawal Al-Duqail, under the supervision of Dr. Hamza Al-Eidaroos. The project aims to develop an application called "SeeMe," based on a detailed analytical study of an Assistive Mobile System (AMS) conducted by the team over the past few months. The SeeMe app uses artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and algorithms to enhance the independence of blind and visually impaired people, reducing their dependence on others to move freely inside and outside the home. It also helps them carry out their daily lives and activities, identifying objects and tools around them, and guiding them to follow correct and safe paths away from hazards.
The project was admired by the organizing committee and the judging panel, and won a gold medal, which was announced on Friday, May 9, 2025. The project supervisor expressed his thanks and appreciation to the university presidency for their encouragement and interest in such participations. He also commended the participating team for winning the gold medal, appreciating their efforts to win the award and raise the university's profile in this international competition.
