Hadhramout Research Center at Al-Ahgaff University Organizes a Scientific Symposium Marking International Translation Day

The Hadhramout Research Center at Al-Ahgaff University organized a scientific symposium on Wednesday evening entitled “Written and Oral Translation: Its Present and Future Between Reality and Aspiration,” coinciding with International Translation Day, observed annually on September 30. The event comes as part of the Center’s ongoing efforts to promote knowledge dissemination and enhance academic and cultural engagement through specialized seminars and workshops.

The symposium was moderated by Professor Sadiq Omar Maknoon, Vice President of Al-Ahgaff University and Executive Director of the Hadhramout Research Center. In his opening remarks, he welcomed the attendees and expressed his gratitude to the participants for their valuable contributions that enriched the discussions.

The session began with a keynote speech by Dr. Ahmad Suryana, a certified translator at the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights in the Republic of Indonesia, who emphasized the indispensable role of human translators alongside artificial intelligence tools. He noted that technology cannot replace the human element in translation but rather serves as a complementary tool that enhances accuracy and efficiency.

Following that, Professor Abdulhamid Al-Shujaa, Professor of Applied Linguistics and Translation at Sana’a University, delivered a scholarly presentation addressing the topic of digital translators, discussing current challenges and future prospects in light of the global scientific and technological advancements.

The symposium concluded with a presentation by Professor Hussein Habtour, Professor of Linguistics and Translation Studies at Shabwa University, who discussed the academic preparation of conference interpreters, highlighting the importance of specialized research and training in this field.

The event witnessed active participation and lively discussion, reflecting the Center’s commitment to strengthening the role of translation as a vital bridge between nations and cultures. The Hadhramout Research Center continues to organize regular scientific lectures and seminars that align with labour market demands and the ongoing evolution of modern technologies.
