Professor Sadiq Omar Maknoon, Vice President of Al-Ahgaff University, participated in a scientific workshop titled “Graduate Studies Programs in Yemeni Higher Education Institutions: Current Reality and Development Mechanisms,” organized by the Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance Council for Higher Education in Aden over two days. The workshop brought together presidents and representatives of public and private Yemeni universities, along with a number of academics and researchers.

The workshop discussed the current state of graduate studies programs in Yemeni universities and explored policies for their development. It also reviewed university experiences in launching new graduate programs and presented perspectives aimed at strengthening scientific research, reducing the burden of overseas scholarships, and aligning graduate program outcomes with labor market needs.

Professor Maknoon contributed a scientific paper highlighting Al-Ahgaff University’s experience in graduate studies programs. He reviewed the university’s accredited academic programs, their alignment with labor market requirements, and academic partnerships with local and international institutions. He also addressed the international dimension of graduate studies through mechanisms for admitting international students, in addition to discussing key challenges facing scientific research.

The workshop concluded with several recommendations emphasizing the need to update higher education legislation, strengthen scientific research, and direct graduate studies programs toward disciplines required by society and the labor market. The recommendations also called for activating research partnerships with local, regional, and international universities and research centers to support sustainable development.

At the conclusion of the workshop, certificates of appreciation were distributed to participants and members of the organizing committees.
