The activities of the International Scientific Conference “Emerging Issues in Deferred Sales (Bayʿ al-Ājāl)” commenced on Saturday 18th of April, at the Faculty of Sharia and Law at Al-Ahgaff University. The conference is held under the patronage of Mr. Salem Ahmed Al-Khanbashi, Member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Hadhramaut, and Professor Amin Noman Al-Qudsi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It is organized by the faculty in partnership with Israa Institute, affiliated with INCEIF University (Malaysia), with the participation of a distinguished group of scholars, researchers, and specialists from Yemen and abroad. The conference will continue over two days.

The opening session began with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by a speech by Dr. Abdullah bin Awadh bin Sumait, Chairman of the Supreme Committee of the Conference and Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law. This was followed by remarks from the international partner, Professor Saeed Abu Hirawa, the University President Professor Abdullah bin Mohammed Baharoon, and the Secretary-General of the Association of Islamic Universities, Professor Sami Mohammed Al-Sharif.
A speech on behalf of the conference patron, Mr. Salem Ahmed Al-Khanbashi, was delivered by Mr. Jumaan Barba’a, Undersecretary of Hadhramaut Governorate for Valley and Desert Affairs. Additionally, a speech on behalf of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research was delivered by Professor Ahmed Abdul Salam Al-Tuwaiji, Deputy Minister for Scientific Research.
The opening session also featured scholarly contributions and interventions from: Professor Ali Jumaa Mohammed (Egypt), Professor Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Al-Haddad (UAE), Professor Mohammed Abdulghaffar Al-Sharif (Kuwait), Professor Abdulbari Mashal (North America), the Scholar Habib Omar bin Mohammed bin Hafiz.

Following the opening session, the first scientific session was held under the first theme: “Jurisprudential Issues in Deferred Sales,” chaired by Dr. Abdulrahman bin Abdullah Al-Saqqaf, with Dr. Arafat bin Abdulrahman Al-Maqdi serving as rapporteur. The session included a number of specialized research papers addressing topics such as:
The session concluded with a general scholarly discussion.
The opening proceedings and the first session highlighted the importance of the conference theme, given its close connection to people’s daily financial transactions and the complex jurisprudential and practical issues it raises—issues that require further rigorous academic research and analysis. The session also demonstrated diversity in approach, combining classical jurisprudential foundations, application to contemporary financial practices, and critical evaluation of modern banking models.
This distinguished academic participation, along with the rich presentations and discussions witnessed during the opening and first sessions, underscores the conference’s academic value and its significance in advancing specialized research in contemporary financial transactions. It also reinforces the connection between Islamic legal foundations and the demands of modern realities.
The conference activities will conclude on Sunday 19th of April with additional research presentations by scholars from Yemen and abroad.
